NEW NEW NEW!

Hey! Getting a lot done...still working in new sets of buttons, more paintings...the etsy scrap blog. So much! I wanted to post a few pics of stuff that is new and available in my etsy shops. I am still getting great entries for Design team! I am so excited. Only one more week! Hurry and submit your entry if you haven't already!

So, I tend to lean towards some of the same colors with buttons...and I'm trying to add different things. I would LOVE input on some new color schemes, designs you would like to see ;) I have a rather large, sparkly, metallic set coming out here soon! So please, give me some fresh ideas!
Made this last night. Love the way the gold turned out. I am really enjoying working with spray paint. I also like the handwriting on here matches my tattoo ;) It's very me.

More painting....

Last night Christian, Shawna and her husband and Karen and i all went to the Postsecret event at UI. It was really awesome. I felt super inspired by Frank Warren and how dedicated he is to this project and its integrity. As I was listening to him talk about how important it is to share our secrets, how it brings hope to others, I couldn't help but feel connected. Last Wednesday I created this piece below. When Christian saw it he immediately ask who the quote was from...to which I replied..."uh, my brain?" It was just something I wrote. Something that needed to come out, that was (I think) a combination of many things I have learned, read, heard and feel. I remember last semester my writing courses talked a lot about the importance of sharing our stories. One author, the Native American writer, M. Scott Momaday once said "Stories take place...." and many have interpreted that quote differently. But I feel that our secrets are like our stories, and that we must be brave enough to tell them. For me telling my stories, whether good, bad or ugly allow for healing, connection, and a way to leave my mark. To me, stories take the place of memory, and we must choose what stories will continue on, what will and will not be remembered carefully. I think that is a lot of what Momaday was trying to convey.

Anyway...I was totally in the front row and Frank pointed at me...but i must've froze/hesitated because the girl next to me spoke up and got a free book. Gaaaah! That's ok, I really took some things away from the presentation. I don't think it was a coincidence that I painted this and wrote it just before Frank spoke similar words. I know it's not famous artist material, but it has meaning...and to me that's more important...more fullfilling. I like that what I paint is messy, unscripted and unorganized. It better represents my life, my personality and perhaps it will speak to someone else. If so, I've succeeded.

Writing reads: "We need to believe that our words are still powerful, that our stories still matter. If we can trust ourselves to be open enough, vulnerable enough, and brave enough to tell them...we can change this place."

A Very Girly Monday Muse...and a new shop!!!

Perhaps if I had these lovely folders I might be able to get more organized...and enjoy it. Better yet, if these folders could appear on my computer I can assure you my photos would be labeled more clearly ;) lol. I am feeling rather girly today...found these folders and the perfume featured on OhJOY! this morning.

I am always so leary about buying perfume without smelling it...I have to wear really mellow scents or it gives me a raging headache. Anyone familiar with these? They just look so pretty...i want one!

I've also been eyeing this pretty necklace for awhile. Possibly because it's called the "London Romantic" and that just makes it so much better! I am really loving Navy blue lately.....this just seems like another piece of dangly jewelry I must have. From this way cool shop RachelleD

Also...I just opened up a second etsy shop "Londontierneyart" for my artwork. Since I loved the piece I made for my grandparents so much, I am making some prints. See the shop here . thanks for all your support!

The greatest is love....

Yesterday this lovely couple celebrated their 5oth wedding anniversary. I am so lucky that I have been close to my grandparents all my life, and that we get to spend lots of time together. Their love is really inspiring, 50 years is a long time, and it wasn't always easy but they made it! As I prepare to get married in the next year I look at them as such a wonderful example, they are still so very happy together.
Not all of our family could make it...there's about 12 grandkids and 5 great grandkids but both my aunts and my dad were able to make it, my brother and sister (dad and brother are standing behind me and sister is in pink) as well as my cousin Nick and his wife and daughter. (behind my sister) It's gatherings like these that make me wish we all lived closer. They are a fun and rowdy bunch. Someday....maybe we can find jobs near our families for the first time ever!!

I painted this 10 X 20 piece in honor of my grandparents and gave it to them. Grandma was very thrilled, which made me very happy! I credit some of my art to her, we were always making things together when I was little, and I remember playing with her button collection for hours and hours. Something obviously stuck there huh? Anyway, I am really excited about this piece. Look at the close ups for the script. I used acrylic, spraypaint, alcohol ink and graphite. I feel like I am starting to get into a groove of the kinds of things I really enjoy painting. I am taking in all the encouragement and trying to keep pursuing this little dream I have. So, thank you to everyone who supports my art!

Spray paint fun

This is a 6 X 12 painting I made last night. I like the way it came out. I used acrylics, spray paint and woodgrain contact paper. I am going to work on a similar one today for my grandparents!

Back in the Swing

That's right, i think I'm feeling rested up and ready to post more consistently! This week is going to be a busy one, lots to do, lots to clean and then some wonderful visits with family and friends I am really looking forward to!

For our monday muse I have a few things to share. First, something that has inspired me and continues to inspire me after a lovely email this morning....

The talented Mati Rose (whose name is pronounced Matey which I totally love!) posted a call for an intern on her blog last week which briefly had me thinking...lets move to San Francisco! If timing were better I might actually have really weighed the idea. I love mati's work...check out some here, and I would really love to learn from someone as talented as she is. I thought at least I might send her an email, and tell her how awesome I think it is that she's giving someone that chance. It was sorta scary, but I did. This morning I recieved a reply....and let me just say...Mati is even more lovely than I thought she'd be. She's warm and genuine, and I am so thankful that she even took the time to send sweet words my way. It inspires me to keep painting...to keep writing...to trust the journey. Thanks Mati!

One of her lovely paintings...
These pretty doily plates that I found on Poppytalk by fox and clover

Pretty plate that looks like my bike from Little Korboose

This print from Dazychicand these really inspiring rocks painted by mccabe:

I hope you have an inspired day! I am off to make the most of mine!

Works in Progress

Wanted to show some of the works in progress right now. Looking at these you might be able to see why I'm always covered in paint! Every time I go to the grocery store or run errands I forget that I must look really silly...since it gets all over my hands, my hair, my clothes. I sometimes wonder if they think I'm a loony! lol. My jeans are torn at the bottom, some have holes, or zippers that no longer stay zipped...and I figure if I'm covered in paint it shouldn't matter right?

I'm also working on some new things for the shop. Like stickers...gel stickers, and skull stickers. I am super excited. ;)

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Design team Question....

Hey guys, I've had some questions about whether design team submissions need to use my buttons from the shop. The answer is NO! I wouldn't expect everyone to use buttons from my shop, but I would like to see at least one of the submissions include some sort of buttons. Doesn't matter what kind! Thanks! let me know it there are any more questions!

IT'S OFFICIAL

So, I am pleased to say that I am back on the Paper pals design team! Whooo! I've known Shawna and Karen for a couple years and they are simply the coolest ladies. I admire all thier hard work and creativity! I missed desing team while I was in school, but it would have been too stressful to try and make it all work. So now I am excited to have the challenge again and hopefully to inspire many fellow scrappers. I know I have a pretty non-traditional style, and I want to inspire others to just go outside the lines! That's what makes me happy. I am working on and idea for a tutorial that I will post on here next week. A fun way to use overlays and transfer paper.

Today and yesterday have been catch up days. I am working on some more paintings...I got more canvas and hambly in the mail. Can't wait to get all these loose projects finished. Even though it might take forever! Next week I'll get back to the norm with Monday muse, a tutorial and hopefully some overall inspiring posts! Meanwhile...Don't forget to get those design team submissions in! The Pubcalls calendar has had some changes and will now be Scrap Calls. The post is going up tomorrow!

Have a fantastic week!

Luckily, i've pushed through and I think I came out with two pretty pieces. These make me happy. Lovely bright colors to celebrate the sunny days we've had!!!

Its going to be a tough choice, i can tell already. I can't wait to have a creative team! If you haven't submitted...there is still plenty of time! til the 30th!
